Even though Metroid is your only experience, you're pretty right on. This is what speedrunning is all about.

Kay Berntsen made a really nice quote about this when he ran E1M1 (Quake) in 24 seconds: "It's skill that makes it possible, but it's luck that makes it happen."

EDIT: oh, and are you ever coming back to help me finish the speedrun article on Wikipedia, Ajbolt89? :)
